Sprinkler Valve, Wiring and Controller Repair in Flower Mound

Valve rebuilds from $150; controller replacement quoted by model

The valves and the controller are the brain and the muscles of your sprinkler system. When a zone refuses to come on, runs when it should not, or the controller screen goes dark after a storm, the problem is almost always one of three things: a solenoid, a wire, or the controller itself.

Valve problems

Each zone has a valve, usually in a green box at ground level. Inside is a diaphragm and a solenoid. A torn diaphragm or debris under it makes the zone leak or stay on. A dead solenoid makes the zone never start. We rebuild valves with manufacturer kits when the body is sound, and replace the whole valve when it is cracked or an obsolete brand with no parts available. Valve boxes that have filled with dirt and roots get cleaned out so the next repair is not an excavation.

Wiring faults

Irrigation wire runs underground from the controller to every valve. It gets cut by edgers, fence posts, new plantings, and gophers. Splices made without waterproof connectors corrode within a couple of years in Denton County soil. We locate breaks with a wire tracer rather than digging up the yard, then repair with gel-filled connectors rated for direct burial.

Controller replacement and upgrades

Lightning and power surges kill a lot of controllers in Texas. If yours is dead, we can replace it with a like-for-like unit or upgrade you to a Wi-Fi smart controller such as a Rachio or Hunter Hydrawise. Smart controllers let you run zones from your phone, skip watering when rain is forecast, and hold your city's watering days without you touching them.

Rain and freeze sensors

Texas has required a rain or moisture shutoff sensor on every new automatic irrigation system since January 1, 2009, and on any existing system that gets a replacement controller. Denton and Highland Village go further and require rain and freeze sensors, and Flower Mound asks for the sensor location on every permit. If yours is missing, stuck, or wired around, we install a working one and verify the controller responds to it.

Valve & Controller Repair questions

My controller says a zone has a fault. What does that mean?

The controller is not getting the expected electrical load from that zone's solenoid. It is usually a failed solenoid, a corroded wire splice in the valve box, or a cut wire from landscaping work. The tech meters each one to find it.

Is a smart controller worth it in Denton County?

For most lawns, yes. A weather-based controller skips watering after rain and adjusts run times by season, which typically cuts irrigation water use by 20 to 30 percent. Denton Water Utilities pays up to $300 toward a WaterSense smart controller and $100 toward a sprinkler tune-up, and Lewisville gives water bill credits of up to $375 a year for conservation upgrades including smart controllers and irrigation inspections. Ask and we will check your city's current program.
